- For the 2 weeks prior to your scheduled treatment, avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, self tanner, spray tans, or any self-tanning lotions.
- Please notify your Nové if you have a history of coldsores. An antiviral medication (valtrex) may be prescribed prior to your treatment.
- To decrease the risk of bruising, you may wish to avoid alcoholic beverages, NSAIDs (Advil, ibuprofen, aspirin), and any herbal supplements that may cause the blood to thin (vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, Garlic, Ginkgo, Ginseng) for at least 3 days prior to your treatment.
- Please notify Nové if you are on a prescribed blood thinner (e.g. aspirin, warfarin).
- If you use nightly retinol, please discontinue it 7 days prior to your appointment.
- Please arrive to your appointment with the treatment area clean, and without makeup, lotion, cream, or other skincare products.
You may be emailed a consent form prior to your appointment in order to decrease contact points with physical paper work (pen, paper, clipboard). We will review the consent with you at the time of your appointment, review contraindications, assure all pre-treatment instructions have been met, and make sure all questions are fully answered before proceeding with treatment.
- A post-treatment kit will be provided at the time of your appointment that includes a mild cleanser, recovery balm, and SPF 40. This kit should be used for the 5 days following your treatment. Should you wish to use your own products, a mild, non-soap cleanser (e.g CeraVe or Cetaphil) should be used twice daily, followed by a gentle moisturizer, and gentle SPF (during the day).
- Treat the treatment area with care. Do not pick, peel, or rub the area. Aquaphor may be applied to dry areas to soothe the skin.
- Use tepid water when washing the face and showering. Pat the area dry.
- Redness and swelling is normal and expected. Swelling is generally worse the morning after the treatment and can last for 2-4 days. You may wish to sleep with your head elevated to reduce additional swelling.
- Cold compresses may be use to provide comfort if the treated area is very warm following the treatment.
- If you experience bruising after your treatment, Arnica tablets or gel can be used to reduce bruising and swelling.
- On the 2nd or 3rd day after treatment, you will notice increasing tiny dark spots known as MENDS (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris). Do not pick or scratch at them. Your skin will have a sandpaper texture and will begin to flake and peel. Peeling may last anywhere from 5-10 days. Makeup can be resumed once the peeling has completely resolved.
- If an antiviral was prescribed to you, please continue to take as directed.
- Please avoid vigorous exercise, heat, saunas, hot tubs, swimming pools and sweaty activities for at least 48 hrs after the treatment.
- Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, self-tanner, spray tans, or any self-tanning lotions for 2 weeks after your treatment. The treatment area is more prone to sunburn and pigment changes.
- Please do not use any exfoliating agents on the treatment area for 7 days. This includes: retinol, retinoid acid, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and other alpha-hydroxy acids.
- You may resume your normal skin care routine and make-up once your skin has completely finished peeling.
A copy of these instructions will be provided at the time of service.
